Day 7 Yellowstone Expedition July 13, 2011

Today was the day we went to see the one thing that represents Yellowstone more than anything else, Old Faithful. On the way we stopped at the Mud Volcano site. This site has a trail that loops around several geothermal features and comes back to the parking lot. Just perfect for the Boys. Seth kept looking through the knotholes in the boardwalk. We do not know what he was looking for or at, maybe trolls.

We got to Old Faithful minutes before it erupted, which was handy for a group with a 3 year old and a 5 year old. They did not have long to wait before seeing Old Faithful in all her glory.

We went to the visitor's center to learn more and get out of the thunderstorm that passed right over us. The storm lasted long enough for us to still be there when Old Faithful erupted again.

We had planned to hike the area but another storm was on the way. We passed the time with an ice cream break and a drive to Grand Prismatic. It also has a loop trail that let you see several features.

We finished the trip by driving along the Gibbon River. We stopped once to view Gibbon Falls.

Back at camp we got a good fire going and introduced the Boys to roasting wieners and marshmallows. There were many marshmallows that gave up their lives to the flames so that my grandsons could enjoy that age old campfire tradition. Thank you, you sweet, sweet heroes.
