Bee Hive Time

I took the day off today to go to Paris today. That's where Dadant & Sons have a bratnch location. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive there, but it's cheaper than paying the shippping. I've placed an order for two hives this year and I need to have two hives ready to deliver by the first Thursday in February. I have the one left over from last year. I'll clean that up one and assemble the new one.

I've decide to try a natural bees wax foundation with crimped wire added. I hope I'll  have better luck getting the bees to draw out this comb. The last two seasons the girls did not draw out any comb in my supers. I had coated plastic foundations through out the hive.

Of course this means I'll have to remove all of the old foundation from my old frames. I also plan to add cross wires in the brood foundation.

So far, I have assembled the hive body and put the brass eyelets in the frame sides. I have a three day wekend this weekend, so I hope to get more done. How much work I get done on the hives dependents on how much of my reading for school I get done and how much studying I can do for my certification test. Also, how much work I do depends on how cold it is. My garage is unheated and it is supposed to be colder tomorrow than has been. So far this week has gooten as high as 62 and as low as 22.
