Colorado Expedition Day 2

After a good night's sleep, we hit the road about 6:30 this morning. We made our first stop in Quanah for breakfast at Red's Drive In. It was a small town diner with very good food. It looked like the local gathering place for the morning crowd. A group of men sat at a table next talking and slowly dipersing to their day's demands. This was obviously their usual gathering place. They often got up to walk behind the counter to refill their coffee cups. It's nice to know that there are still back home places left and that the world has not gone completely corporate.

We continued our trek without incident except for the rain storm we hit in New Mexico. It was not as serve or as long lasting as the one yesterday in Texas.

We made it to Red River in the early afternoon, excited at the coolness and the dusting of new snow in the mountains. We have a room at the Western Motel. It sits right on the Red River. In fact I can hear it right behind me as I sit on the porch outside of our room.
Popa, Anita, and I took a walking tour of the town after we had Mimi settled in the room. It’s a beautiful little town. However, not too much of the attractions are open right now. Which is good, because it would make me want to stay here longer. We have to head out in the morning for Dolores, Colorado.  It’s about 300 miles from here and we have to take it slow for Mimi’s sake.
