The trip is over. We made it from Wichita Falls to home by a little after noon. Which I could say that something exciting or wonderful happened along the way, but it did not. It is good to be home. I guess it says a lot about how I feel about this old farm when I look forward to being home after all I have seen and done on this trip. Or any other trip.
Now I have to get my head wrapped around the fact that I have to be back at work tomorrow. Somehow all those things that were so important to me a little over a week ago seem to be superficial and of no consequence. To borrow a phrase, It's all a tempest in a teacup. I can see myself sitting in my office, listening to some offender telling me his problems or something he needs and thinking, "Really, you think this amounts to anything? In the grand scheme of things this way below insignificant." It may take me a while to get back into the swing of things. But listen carefully, you may hear a scream from a guy who just wants out of the rat race.
