Nothing can be more boring than watching people take a test. And then today it got worse. The AC went out. Four examiners in a room with 31 testers and it was miserable. But today was the last day of testing so it will be business as usual. One of the good things about testing is that it gives me a break from all the offenders. Wherever I am there is someone asking me a question or wanting something. It is nice to be wanted, but some days it just wears me out.
Here is an example of how things go at work. One Friday I dropped two offenders from a class that is required before they can go home on parole. They had completed all the requirements for the class. On the following Tuesday I received an e-mail from the main office telling me the computer was wrong, they did not have enough hours to complete the class. So I re-enrolled them for one day to give them enough hours. I dropped them again. Now the computer shows them with 40 hours less then they had before. When we notified the main office, they said that they were aware that the computer was showing the wrong number of hours. Come on people, what if it was your son who was waiting to go home, would you be so cavalier about their hours?
I might not be so frustrated if this kind of stuff did not go on every day. My work depends on being able to get correct information quickly. If the info given to me is wrong, then I am going to make wrong decisions. And some of these decisions can greatly alter a man's life.
Sometimes I wonder why I like this job so much.
